Finally, I have started writing a feature-length novel which has been one of my lifelong dreams

I have started serializing it online after setting up another blog which has no nude images.

I got the idea after reading a memoir of an Indian actor. 

All these years I had no idea how to begin or even end a novel. But now I understand what I should do.

My initial plan is to write one chapter per day so that within one year I can compile a book of a respectable 365 pages although novelist Robert James Waller says a good book can be written within 200 pages and I believe him because I have read excellent novels that are under 200 pages.

I am keeping everything short and sweet but in a way that the reader will not feel robbed of the necessary details. I have included sufficient important information along with a flowing narrative. I will publish it under a pen name.

If no publisher is interested after I feel I have written everything I need to say, I will get the book published from my own expenses and put on Amazon for sale.

After I received a NOTE from a Maldivian ex-blogger who said that there may not be any Maldives sexuality blogs left, I contacted some of my Maldivian friends and inquired into the past and present history of Maldivian sex blogs.

I am from the Maldives. I am one among the first Maldivian bloggers to blog when the Maldivian Blogosphere came into being with exciting blogging platforms such as Google's Blogger and Automattics' WordPress.

With Internet was born the Maldivian Blogosphere. Me and some friends dared to break the mold by addressing taboo subjects such as secularism and LGBTQIA+ rights.

But things started going horribly wrong. Liberal left wingers were coerced to cower in fear with the issuing of threats including death threats. Right wing conservatives gained the upper hand as me and my friends were forced to shut down our blogs.

While now there do exist Maldivian openly liberal left wingers, they are on other social media like X (formerly Twitter). But that's micro blogging. I am not sure whether any Maldivians have blogs or websites anymore because I haven't seen one. While you are anonymous and this anonymous blog of yours is aimed at covering queer issues specialized for a South Asian audience, I do appreciate you generously giving a little bit of space to publish material relating to Maldives in addition to your coverage of LGBTQIA+ topics of South Asian countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Despite the "old" generation of Maldivian bloggers like me having to shut down our blogs, I am glad that we are remembered. Even now the youngsters of that time DM me and let me know that it was a personal relief to them to know that we Maldivian queers do exist and live and that we believe nothing is wrong with us being queer. They lament the fact that, due to considerations to our safety and security, we Maldivians of that time had to shut down our blogs.

Those who DM me say that they were inspired by the older generation of Maldivian bloggers. Some of them are quite public about their queer-ness. Others only share their sexuality secrets with their circle of friends which is still good because they have a support network. Not like me, when there was no Internet, thus no information source, when I was 13, and I felt scared because as a male I was having fantasies like dancing in the gardens with celebrities such as Govinda, Mithun, Anil Kapoor, etc., on whom I had a crush 😂. I had no knowledge of sex at that time, so my fantasies were based on Hindi movies' songs 😆.

I know that the Internet has way more information than you could ever cover in this janam (lifetime) and yet it's nice to discover your blog after years passed when me and my friends shut down our blogs.

It is interesting that your blog is very much oriented towards South Asia. While the prevalent religions in South Asia are Buddhism and Hinduism, which are ok with homosexuality, transgenderism, and secularism, South Asian culture is still too conservative to my taste. Therefore, due to such a traditional outlook on lifestyle, many South Asians are still scared to practice homosexuality even if countries like Nepal has legalized same-sex marriages and India has legalized same-sex unions.

Ultimately, you are informing people about the transition of Millennials and Gen Z'ers from a taboo lifestyle into a normalized queer lifestyle.

A Maldivian straight friend of mine, who is empathetic toward his queer friends like me, feels your blog is an important reminder to younger generations that we older generations suffered so much mentally because there was no information source such as the Internet at the time when we were younger. So he feels your blog is important in the way of keeping a record of the journey of queer South Asians.

Therefore, you are not only establishing solidarity with younger queers but offering readers first hand information of real queer experiences of South Asians - rather than the Harold Robbins type of steamy sex fiction anybody can find on the Internet.

Maldives had its one day general elections yesterday. India held its first phase of the seven phase general elections on Friday.

This reminded me of an earlier instance when I voted in a general election.

I arrived at the polling booth with only one woman waiting in queue before me. A super cute elections official who I guessed is in his early 20s checked her in.

But before she moved, he extended his right hand towards me which happened to block the woman moving towards the other elections officials who were issuing ballot papers.

Awkwardly, Mr. Handsome then moved his hand around to the other side, letting the lady in. As he extended his hand toward me, I took a good look at his good looking face and his facial expression looked like he was nervous.

I handed him my national identity card and I was excited that I was getting to lock my eyes with this cutie for longer than necessary because he would be required to get a good look at me and determine whether my face in real life matched with my photograph on my ID card.

I got a kick as he looked at me. And if I am not way off the mark, I think he was taking just a little bit longer in verifying my identity by matching my real face with my photographic face. I didn't feel like he was gawking or staring at me though.

His intense and prolonged look into my eyes made me feel the kind of emotion that bonds two strangers.

He let me in and I sat on a chair for my token number to be called.

I couldn't help but turn my head in the direction of the hottie. There was a lull in the queue and because he had nobody to attend to he turned toward me and started gazing at me unashamedly.

I cast my ballot and went away. But before that, I turned around to look at him. There was still no one in the queue. I found him turned in my direction and still his eyes fixed on me.

Then he smiled a wide smile almost as if a grin. I smiled back but right at that instance I realized voters are not allowed to linger after casting their ballots. So I had to break his smiling spell and go away.

I was feeling wistful because I had to break a very real connection I had made with this stranger as confirmed by his looking at me a second longer than the generally accepted definition of 'casually'.

Even as I reached home I was feeling a bit down because there had been no opportunity for me to get his cell phone number and other contact details and vice versa. Shucks! Who said life is fair?

Yes, Nepal is considered the first country in South Asia to allow same-sex marriage. The Supreme Court of Nepal ruled in favor of same-sex marriage in 2008 [Wikipedia Same-sex marriage in Nepal]. However, there are still some hurdles to overcome. The  constitution itself doesn't define marriage  and the Civil Code  only recognizes marriage between a man and a woman. While the Supreme Court directed the government to establish a system to register same-sex marriages,  the process  has been inconsistent. There have been instances where some municipalities have registered same-sex marriages but lower courts have also rejected applications.
